The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office prosecutes a wide variety of crimes involving sexual assault, including offenses on children and adults, committed by family members, acquaintances, and strangers.  There are three full-time Deputy District Attorneys and one supervisor who prosecute sexual assault cases in this County.

The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office works closely with other agencies to effectively prosecute these cases, while providing much-needed sensitivity and services to victims of sexual assault.  Our office representative meets regularly with representatives from law enforcement, Rape Trauma Services, San Mateo County Mental Health, the Keller Center, the Victim Services, and Youth and Family Services to assure a coordinated and cooperative response to allegations of sexual assault and abuse.  Training is regularly provided to law enforcement and other agencies on the different aspects of working with sexual assault victims, including forensic interviewing, emotional and behavioral responses of victims, and the roles and responsibilities of each involved agency.

The District Attorney’s Office is committed to seeking justice for both victims of sexual assault and their offenders.  If you or someone close to you has been a victim of sexual assault, you are encouraged to report it to the law enforcement agency where the abuse occurred.  For counseling services, please contact Rape Trauma Services at (650) 652-RAPE (7273), or www.rapetraumaservices.org.
